this year i ended up in florida for thanksgiving. it was a totally random decision to rent a house on marco island with friends and we all wondered how such a non-traditional thanksgiving would go… non-traditional in the sense that most of us were northerners not used to walking on the beach in the warm sun, swimming and watching palm trees sway in the breeze while preparing turkeys, pumpkin pies and the like – and many of us had never vacationed together, which added yet another new dynamic. but while i missed my family gathering in maine, watching golden sunsets with cocktails in hand wasn’t terrible. this year christmas will be for a cold, hopefully snow-filled, tradition-laden time with my family in maine.
today i’m thankful for good friends, lots of delicious food, telephones for texting and calling family, swimming pools, beaches and the feeling of being loved and supported by so many.
